Qualifications
Generally, international schools look for candidates who meet the following criteria:
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher
- A teaching qualification/certification
- K-12 experience
Teachers
Experienced Teachers
- A Bachelor’s degree in education (primary teachers), or subject area (secondary teachers)
- A teaching qualification/certification from a ministry or state department of education
- Two or more years of current full-time teaching experience* in a K-12 classroom**
New Teachers
- A Bachelor’s degree in education (primary teachers), or subject area (secondary teachers)
- A teaching qualification/certification from a ministry or state department of education
- One semester of student teaching experience* in a K-12 classroom**
Counselors
Experienced Counselors
- A Master’s degree in school counseling/psychology
- A counseling qualification/certification from a ministry or state department of education
- Two or more years of current full-time counseling experience* in a K-12 school**
New Counselors
- A Master’s degree in school counseling/psychology
- A counseling qualification/certification from a ministry or state department of education
- One year of counseling internship/experience* in a K-12 school**
Librarians
- A Master’s degree in library science
- A librarian qualification/certification from a ministry or state department of education
- Two or more years of current full-time librarian experience* in a K-12 school**
* Curriculum experience highly sought by international schools:
- AP (Advanced Placement)
- CAIE (Cambridge Assessment International Educational)
- Common Core

- IBPYP (International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program)
- IBMYP (Middle Years Program)
- IBDP (Diploma Program)
- IBCP (Careers Program)
- IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education)
- IPS (International Primary Curriculum)
- Montessori
- Reggio Emilia
- STEM
- Other (Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, US)
** Prior college/university level teaching, language school/ESL experience, tutoring, and volunteer work create a more well-rounded candidate profile but they cannot replace full-time experience in a K-12 school.
